I've been testing Elementary OS on virtual box and would like to install Firefox ESR but I can't because the repository parameter has been removed from apt.

I tried following the guide Here however I get the error "E: Unable to parse package file /etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla-firefox (1)"

I download esr from mozilla and extracted it to /opt however it isn't showing up on the list of installed applications. How do I get it to show up there? Also how do I remove what I previously did so it doesn't cause problems?
